ser·en·dip·i·ty
(noun)
discovery of something fortunate: the
accidental discovery of something wonderful,
valuable, or useful
We like to say that
the serendipitous event started on September 15,
2003, when Lin Chen (violin) moved to Seattle from
Sydney, Australia and Karyn Baker (viola) arrived
from Louisville, Kentucky - on exactly the same day! It
was almost a year before they finally met and
started playing music together. One serendipitous
meeting led to the next, and soon Serendipity
Strings was born with the addition of Begin Scarseth on violin and Doris Bartha on cello.
Playing in a string quartet is
one of the most challenging and delightful
experiences for a string musician. It’s a chance to
connect deeply with the music, the other musicians,
and the audience. A quartet must combine technical
skills and musical interpretation and group synergy.
We have all played in numerous quartets and other
chamber groups over the course of our musical
careers.
